Prabal Gurung’s Top 10 Greatest Fashion Hits

In honor of today being Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung’s birthday, I wanted to highlight his amazing career with a list of his most incredible creations!

Prabal Gurung was born in Singapore and raised in Nepal (he gained American citizenship in 2013), he often uses his upbringing in Nepal as the inspiration behind his work. In 1999 he got his start in fashion by interning for Donna Karen in New York City. It was only a few years later that Prabal went on to start his own successful clothing line and create exclusive collections for the iconic brand J. Crew and billion-dollar mega corporation Target. Not to mention he is also responsible for dressing some of the most fashionably impactful and powerful women in the world, such as Sarah Jessica Parker,  Oprah Winfrey, and First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama. Prabal, you are amazing, you are a superstar and truly an inspiration to all. Happy Birthday! Xo.

Project Blossoming: Top Indian Jewelry Designers Come Together to Support Female Education

When I found out about Project Blossoming it resonated with me immediately, and not solely for the incredible jewelry collection that has manifested because of it. Project Blossoming is an initiative created by international gemstone company Gemfields, that focuses on funding as well as educating young girls in India with the hopes that they “will blossom to realize their full potential.” Phenomenal.

Contemporary African Style: Agi & Sam Fall-Winter 2014 “Watu Nguvu” Lookbook

British design duo Agape Mdumulla and Sam Cotton, the men behind the charming brand Agi & Sam, have released the lookbook for their Fall-Winter collection titled  “Watu Nguvu” which translates to “People Power” in Swahili. The menswear collection is inspired by the Maasai people of Kenya and includes crop trousers, nylon vests and the best part of all – plenty of gingham. I love the gingham-checkered pattern and if you ask me it's highly underrated. I would pick it over tartan any day. My favorite piece in the collection is the black & white gingham overcoat (pictured above). Although it's menswear, I love it and think it would be perfect with a charcoal skinny pant and point-toe pumps. Mmm.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Cover April 2014 Vogue + Why It Pisses People Off

Photo Courtsey of  Annie Leibovitz for Vogue 2014.

The April 2014 cover of American Vogue was unveiled today and put the internet in such a frenzy you'd think it was the September issue. Kanye West and his baby-mama/fiancé/protégé Kim Kardashian graced the cover in what appears to be a high-fashion interpretation of an engagement photo. Many people lashed out via Twitter and Instagram to share their thoughts of the "#WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE" on the cover of Vogue -- some really loved it, while others were downright pissed off... and here's why:

Du Juan and Bonnie Chen Star in Van Cleef & Arpels Spring-Summer 2014 Campaign

Van Cleef & Arpels, the French luxury jewelry brand that is a favorite of A-list actresses, launches their Pierres de Caractère Collection featuring Chinese beauties Du Juan and Bonnie Chen. Model Du Juan is no stranger to gorgeous jewelry as she was also featured in a David Yurman campaign back to back in 2008 and 2009. Bonnie Chen, the younger of the two at 23-years-old, also has an impressive list of credentials that feature Ralph Lauren and my personal favorite Elie Saab. The collection is said to represent elegance and luxury, and I think both ladies do a fabulous job of that. See more below.

NurZahra Fall 2014: Stylish Takes on Traditional Muslim Looks

Windri Widiesta Dhari, the brain behind the NurZahra Ready-To-Wear Fall 2014 collection, brings a fresh approach to traditional attire for Muslim Women. A highlight of Jakarta Fashion Week, the collection included Indonesian Batik techniques blended with beautiful modern prints that were featured on dresses and tunics, as well as headscarves. NurZahra prides itself on being fashion that is not only comfortable and made from organic materials, but is wearable by the Hijab and non-Hijab community.

Chanel Iman Covers 'The Edit' + Talks Fashion Industry Racism

Radiant as ever Chanel Iman covers this week's issue of Net-A-Porter's ‘The Edit’ magazine. Inside Chanel talks about battling racism within the fashion world and even being bullied for her naturally thin physique. I am so thrilled about the amount of the models coming out to speak on the issue of race in fashion, something that has been avoided for years. Progress people, progress.

Versailles ’73: An Important Film For Fashion

If you consider yourself a lover of fashion and haven’t heard of one of the most groundbreaking fashion events of all time, 1973 Grand Divertissement at Versailles, I strongly suggest you get familiar. The 2012 documentary Versailles '73: American Runway Revolution by Deborah Riley Draper chronicles the historic events of November 28th, 1973 in Paris, France where American ready-to-wear was born and recognized as a force to be reckoned with by its European counterparts. Many refer to this event as ‘The Battle of Versailles Fashion Show’ as European fashion icons such as Christian Dior, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and others went head to head in an all out fashion showcase against American favorites (and at the time newcomers) Anne Klein, Bill Blass, Stephen Burrows and more. Not only was this an important moment that would change the course of American fashion, but this was also an important moment for African-American women in the fashion industry. The American designers booked eleven African-American models to accompany them to Paris, making this the first time in history predominately African-American models were used in a major fashion show.

Grace Mahary For Bergdoff Goodman Spring 2014 Campaign

Photos Courtesy of Bergdoff Goodman

Grace Mahary is apart of the new generation of models of color who completely dominated during fashion month. It’s safe to say she was in every major show and is one to be on the watch for. You could consider Grace to be a video vixen turned high-fashion model... considering her first major booking was in a Trey Songz music video. Started from the bottom now she’s here! No shade to Trey, but I mean really, how many girls from Trey Songz music videos end up on Chanel runways… I’ll wait.

In the meantime, check out the Eritrean-Canadian beauty showing off her goods in the newest Spring 2014 campaign for Bergdoff Goodman. Werq.

Binx Walton Casted As New Face of Maiyet

Oh baby Binx. Leona "Binx" Walton is one of my favorite young models. The teen stunner made her mark on the fashion world modeling in countless high profile shows from New York, to Milan, to Paris and it seems the exposure has really paid off this time around. Binx stars in the new Maiyet Spring 2014 campaign sporting some gorgeous original pieces. Yay Binx!

Lee Daniels First Fashion Editorial Featuring Joan Smalls + Michael B. Jordan

Director Lee Daniels known for his 2013 film The Butler has crafted his very first fashion editorial for the spring-summer issue of CR Fashion Book. The editorial features model Joan Smalls and my boyfriend (wishful thinking) actor Michael B. Jordan.  The editorial is Daniels own creative interpretation of classic fairy tales, and I must say I don’t think any other actor would have made a better Prince Charming than Mr. Jordan.

Nikhil Thampi Shines At Lakmé Fashion Week

It's Fashion Week in Mumbai! Nikhil Thampi's show for Spring/Summer 2014 collection titled Untamed, is with out a doubt one of my favorites. I obsessed over the gold 3D flowers intricately placed along blazers, blouses, and sheer flowing skirts. The collection was representative of a woman with sex appeal and undeniable strength. The white power suit was a gem, perhaps not suitable for the average boardroom but gorgeous nonetheless. View more looks from the collection below!

Stunning Chinese model Shu Pei shows off the latest spring beauty trends in her six-page spread for Canadian beauty publication, Glow Magazine. As a spokeswoman for Maybelline New York Shu Pei talks her own daily beauty routine, which is so unbelievably simple it only includes 3 products: BB Cream, mascara, and Maybelline’s Baby Lips lip balm. I suppose this simplicity is how she keeps that glowing skin so flawless… *goes out and buys BB Cream and Baby Lips ASAP*

Nappa Dori: Luxurious Leather Goods for a Good Cause

On the Nappa Dori website it describes the brand as, “…a tribute to quintessential Indian sensibilities, blended perfectly with contemporary interpretations in design, material and craftsmanship." I couldn’t have said it better myself. Nappa Dori is a fashion house based out of Delhi, India that specializes in creating beautifully handcrafted leather goods. Gautam Sinha founded the brand in 2010 and since developed a following as well as notoriety from various prestigious publications such as Elle Décor, and the Holy Grail of all fashion magazines, Vogue. The brand’s name, Nappa Dori, translates to “leather and thread” which is homage to the meticulous craftsmanship behind the luxurious designs.

Jourdan Dunn Covers Second Issue of Miss Vogue

Photo Courtesy of Miss Vogue 2014

Miss Vogue Magazine, the newborn baby sister to British Vogue debuts their cover for the second issue featuring supermodel Jourdan Dunn. Jourdan's career has become such a joy to watch blossom and unfold. I remember writing about her on my very first blog long before she was covering magazines and casted in the hottest shows. Of course I've always had a bit of biased toward Miss Dunn due to our like surname, ha, but it is clear that the world has taken noticed of her talent and there is so much more to come. I'm stoked.

Jourdan will also be a keynote speaker at this years Vogue Festival. If you plan to be in the UK later this month (March 29 & 30), you can purchase tickets here. Vogue Festival 2014

Zuhair Murad Ready-to-Wear Fall 2014 Creates Beauty Inspire by… Bugs

Photos Courtesy of Zuhair Murad 2014

Today was a big day in Paris as Fashion Week came to a spectacular close. Miu Miu, Hermès, the debut of Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton, and a brilliant presentation by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad. Murad is said to have pulled his inspiration for these lace and leather cutout pieces by studying the shapes and silhouettes of the world’s most beautiful insects. Dragonflies, butterflies, and even some bat-wing sleeves made an appearance in the mix. The collection went from day, cocktail, to evening looks that were all sexy, sophisticated, and elaborately embroidered interpretations of the flying specimens. Bravo.

Jeremy Scott’s Adidas Originals Model Too Dark For Balmain?

Jeremy Scott’s Adidas Originals line recently revealed its newest lookbook for the Spring-Summer 2014 collection. The lookbook features the beautiful Australian model Ajak Deng. Last week Deng caused quite a stir on Twitter as she made claims of being booted from Thursday’s Balmain show in Paris. The reason? Her skin was too dark. Racism in the fashion industry is not particularly surprising, as we are all aware that this exists. However, Deng being too dark for a show that a black woman inspired (Rihanna), a black woman opened (Jourdan Dunn), and a biracial black man created (Olivier Rousteing) is a bit more disturbing.
