In just a little over a year, Puerto Rican stunner Joan Smalls has successfully managed to take the fashion industry by storm with unstoppable tenacity. Having spent the summer staring in major campaigns, attending industry events announcing a lipstick line with Estée Lauder, and gracing the cover of Vogue’s September issue, you’d think she might need a break to regroup… but not Joan. Not only has she been serving true supermodel realness on a number of runways this fashion month (fun fact: she’s walked in every single city), she can also be seen on the cover of Self magazine’s October issue showing off her gorgeous face, radiant complexion and phenomenally toned body. The editorial was shot by Patrick Demarchelier for the October issue, which serves as the first issue apart of Self’s recent re-brand, and is the first issue edited by Self’s new Editor-in-Chief, Asian-American Joyce Chang. In the cover story, Joan discusses her diet (she doesn’t drink alcohol or coffee), and her workout regime with trainer Marc Gordon. Although she may seem like a supreme supermodel with a rigorous diet and workout plan, Joan also confesses to her weakness for Puerto Rican, Italian, Thai food, and sweets, – proving that it’s OK to indulge a little now and then.
